Solid State and Liquid NMR Spectroscopist – Scientist II 847BR

    Spectroscopist will be responsible for:  Conducting nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy research focused on understanding processes related to the development of renewable energy. Position will be primarily focused on conducting liquid and solid state NMR-based research related to chemical and biological biomass conversion. However, developing collaborations with NREL researchers in other areas will be encouraged.

    Communicate NREL’s objectives and results to the relevant stakeholders, including DOE, other government laboratories, industry and academia. Write scientific papers and present NREL’s work at national/international meetings to highlight and enhance NREL’s research program. Manage Magnetic Resonance Facility consisting of Bruker Avance 200MHz solids, Varian 400 MHz liquids and Bruker ELEXSYS EPR spectrometers. Expand current NREL facilities, staff and activities related to NMR spectroscopy. Conduct all research activities in a safe manner following NREL ES&H procedures.

    Required Education and Experience: Relevant Master's Degree and 3 years experience or equivalent relevant education/experience.

    Additional Basic Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: biopolymers characterization.

    Preferred Qualifications:  Ph.D. in Chemistry or other relevant technical discipline Demonstrated good interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills. Demonstrated good interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills. Proven ability to work in cross-functional teams and form effective working relationships with scientist and engineers. Experience related to cryoprobes, structural determinations (solid or liquids applications), and/or biopolymers characterization.

    **Candidates at various levels of experience and aptitude will be considered for this role including management.
