Ph.D. position in protein NMR
The Leiden Institute of
Chemistry, The Netherlands
The student
will be involved in either of the following projects:
* Extensive NMR assignment of a 44 kDa redox enzyme
and the characterization of substrate entry and exit using
paramagnetic substrate analogues. Paramagnetic relaxation and
relaxation dispersion methods will be used. On the basis of the
experimental data the substrate routes through the protein will be
modelled.
* Characterisation of a complex of two redox
proteins and elucidation of the structural changes and effects on
enzyme activity upon formation of the protein complex. Paramagnetic
probes developed in our group will be employed for these NMR studies.
The Leiden Institute of Chemistry is part of the
Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Leiden University, The
Netherlands. Leiden University is a member of the League of European
Research Universities. The Institute comprises research groups in
biological, synthetic and physical chemistry. Within the section
Protein Chemistry (http://protchem.lic.gorlaeus.net/ubbink)
the research is focussed on the biophysical characterisation of
interactions between proteins and other biomolecules. The group is
highly international. Facilities for protein engineering, production
and purification are available within the section, with a close link to
the section Biosynthetic Chemistry. The Institute hosts a large NMR
centre for a variety of magnetic resonance applications.
Required: M.Sc. in biophysics with proven experience
with protein NMR and affinity with modelling calculations.
We offer an appointment for a period of one year
with a possibility for prolongation up to four years. The appointment
is for 1.0 fte. The gross monthly salary is 2,042 euros in the first
year and increases progressively each year to 2,612 euros in the fourth
year in accordance to the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch
Universities (CAO Nederlandse Universiteiten).
Your application must include:
* Curriculum vitae
* Three references
* Transcript of university courses with marks
* Letter motivating why you are interested in and
suited for the project.
The application term closes March 20, 2009. Applications are to be sent
by e-mail to Ms Ingrid Bekooy (bekooy_i@lic.leidenuniv.nl).
