Postdoctoral Fellowship: Biomolecular NMR Spectroscopy

EMBL Heidelberg

Member States of EMBL (Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Israel, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the associate member state Australia) are advised that applications are being sought for the following position at EMBL Heidelberg:

    Postdoctoral Fellowship: Biomolecular NMR Spectroscopy

Applications are invited for a post-doc position in the group of Biomolecular NMR Spectroscopy in the Structural and Computational Biology Unit the EMBL in Heidelberg. The aim of the research is to characterize the structure and function of multi-component ribonucleoprotein complexes involved in the processing of RNA. The structural investigation will be mainly by means of NMR spectroscopy, both in solid- and solution-state, in combination with other structural biology techniques, such as X-ray crystallography and electron microscopy. The NMR facility at the EMBL features a 800 MHz and a 600 MHz spectrometer, both equipped with cryoprobes. In the Structural and Computational Biology Unit a broad range of techniques, such as X-ray crystallography, single particle electron microscopy, EM tomography and single molecule light microscopy, are used to describe biological systems at various levels of spatial and temporal resolution.

Qualifications and experience: Applicants should hold a Ph.D degree and should have received outstanding training in either solid- or solution-state NMR spectroscopy. Strong motivation and excellent scientific skills are essential, as well as willingness to work in a team. Desire to work in an multicultural & interdisciplinary environment is essential. At least one accepted first author publication is expected.

Contract: An initial contract of 1 year will be offered to the successful candidate. This can be renewed, depending on circumstances at the time of review.

    Closing date: 31 March 2009
