note is for SpinCore Technologies, Inc. RadioProcessorTM
users interested in using Felix to view
and process NMR data saved in the Felix for Windows file
format. Along with ASCII and JCAMP-DX, Felix is one of the
formats that are available for use with the RadioProcessor
board. When purchased with a PC, fully
configured, Felix for Windows
is installed on the computer, and Felix will launch automatically upon
double-clicking any file with the .fid extension. The install
file for Felix can be found here. If you have never used Felix before, please know that Felix is one of the most intuitive GUI programs I know for 1D data processing. After you double-click on any file with *.fid extension, simply follow the default prompt values, and you should see processed spectra in no time. You may expand the spectra vertically by simply sliding the ruler on the right-hand-side of the GUI. To see the details around the peak, simply click-and-hold the left button and drag the mouse around the spectral line. When you release the button, you will see a rectangular trace of your movement on the screen and the context-sensitive menu will appear - select the "Expand" option and you will see your region of interest. Now, should you arrive at the white, empty screen, it simply means that you expanded to just a tiny fragment of the spectrum, with no data in the region. Should this happen, your friend is the "Full" button in the lower left corner of the GUI. In the expanded mode, you will have a slider at the bottom of the spectrum - simply move it to the left or right with the mouse to examine the entire spectrum in details. Switching between Real, Imaginary, and Spectrum displays is under the "Display" top menu item. In general, the processing with Felix follows the steps that are found under the "Processing" top menu item - apodize, FFT, phase, analyze, etc. You can FFT as the first step, and the prompted values will give you correct spectra. Phasing might be a bit tricky at the beginning, but the only tricky part is to press the "OK" button AFTER you phased the spectrum. Nearly every novice user fails at this step, so please remember to press the "OK" button after you phased the spectrum. Felix has its shortcomings, but it should be OK for your first, quick evaluation of the board. We would welcome your comments and suggestions. |
